Menstrual underwear has long been a favorite product for women of childbearing age and in general for women who are interested in a comfortable and pleasant product for absorbing postpartum bleeding (a professional should be consulted because there are cases in which the amount and type of bleeding needs to be monitored), although despite their name, menstrual underwear is also suitable for women who suffer from urine leakage or vaginal bleeding. Similar to disposable pads, menstrual underwear is also divided into two main absorption levels – medium and high.

How to choose the right absorption level for you?

The first few days of the cycle are characterized by increased flow, so to ensure optimal absorption, it is recommended to choose menstrual underwear with a high absorption level. In general, menstrual underwear is good for use for up to 12 hours on average, however, the absorption level of menstrual underwear varies depending on the flow rate, so it is recommended to change the underwear if a feeling of wetness arises. Starting from the third or fourth day of the cycle, the flow rate moderates, so during these days it is recommended to choose menstrual underwear with a medium absorption level.

How does the absorption mechanism in reusable menstrual underwear work?

The absorption mechanism is based on different layers of fabric sewn on top of each other, with the top layer made of 92% micro-modal fabric and eight percent elastane fabric. The micro-modal, which is made from wood fibers, is very pleasant to the touch on the skin of the body. The absorbent layer is made of microfiber. There are three thin layers in total: an outer layer that allows the blood to pass quickly to the smart absorption layer and leaves the area next to the skin of the body dry, a smart absorption layer that traps the blood and prevents leaks, and an insulation layer that prevents the leakage of fluids and unpleasant odors and absorbs moisture. The three absorption layers are very thin and are not visible or prominent beyond the bottom line.

How many menstrual panties will you need each month?

It is recommended to change menstrual underwear every 12 hours, with the average cycle lasting about four days. Therefore, to complete a full cycle, you will need to have a maximum of eight pairs of underwear and a minimum of three pairs – which will be washed during the cycle. If you do not have a dryer, it is recommended to have at least seven pairs to cover the entire cycle period. It is recommended to purchase underwear with two absorbency levels to ensure comfort during heavy and light menstrual days.
