How do you measure waist circumference?
How do you know if the size you've chosen is the right size for you? Every body is unique, and a comprehensive size chart can help you find the right size in different underwear cuts.
This short guide will teach you how to measure your waist in four easy steps.
Step #1: Make sure you know where your waist is.
Before you begin, take off your shirt and make sure you find the exact location of your waist. The waistline is located in the abdominal area between the pelvic bones and the ribcage and is often located at or above the navel. Body structure varies from one woman to another, so a recommended tip for finding your waistline is to locate the narrowest part of your upper body.
Step #2: Get the right accessories.
Once you have located your waist, make sure you have the following equipment:
Mirror - Stand in front of a full-length body mirror that will allow you to have an overall view of your body while measuring.
Tape Measure - The best option would of course be a flexible tape measure that can be wrapped around your body. Don't have a tape measure at home? Don't worry. Try using a string or cord and you can measure your results with a ruler.
Step #3: Measure yourself
Stand upright and place your feet together - making sure your feet are no wider than shoulder width apart. Relax your body and avoid "drawing in" your stomach.
The measuring tape should be parallel to the floor and placed gently on the body without “digging” into the skin – make sure the measuring tape is straight throughout and not twisted in any part, especially at the back. Hold the end of the measuring tape in line with your belly button and wrap it around your body.
Step #4: Read and record the result
Your waist size will be determined by the number where the end of the tape meets the other end. It is important to note that the number indicating your waist size is in centimeters. It is recommended to repeat the measurement once more to ensure the most accurate result possible. If the result is different, measure your waist a third time and calculate the average of the three measurements.
